Who We Are

Towns in the Catskill Mountain region of New York were devastated by flooding in hurricane Irene's aftermath.

In an attempt to provide assistance to families in the affected Catskill Mountain areas - many of whom have lost their homes, businesses, livelihoods, and towns - a grassroots organization of concerned citizens are collecting supplies throughout the NYC area.

Many NYC residents stocked up on bottled water, batteries, non-perishable food, and other emergency supplies in preparation for the worst from Irene, luckily, those emergency supplies were not needed in most cases here in NYC.

We are asking New Yorkers to please take a moment and simply drop off their unused hurricane emergency supplies (or any items on the suggested items list) at one of our collection sites. We will then have our network of volunteers- most who have homes or families in the region-transport these much needed items to drop off centers upstate in the affected Catskill Mountain areas.

--All of the volunteers at Catskill Mountain Relief thank you for taking the time to visit our blog and for assisting us in these important efforts.

One Small Act CAN Make a HUGE Difference

Hey, New Yorkers, do you know that dropping off your unused hurricane supplies can make a HUGE difference?

Think about this:

If one percent of New York City's eight million residents drop off just 2 bottles of water and just 5 cans of food each, those small efforts would provide one-hundred sixty thousand bottles of water and four hundred thousand cans of food to assist families in desperate need in hurricane affected regions.

Please drop off your unused hurricane supplies at one of our NYC area collection sites today!

Update on Our Efforts

Thanks to the generosity of the many New Yorkers who have already come by a NYC area collection site and dropped off supplies, and the efforts of our many volunteers, we have begun transporting supplies to drop sites in the affected regions for distribution to those in need.

Our NYC area collection centers are up and running, and we have a network of transport volunteers who have graciously offered to regularly transport supplies to the Catskill Mountain region.

Keep up the great efforts everyone!
